I’m all for a good pamper session! The stresses and strains of daily life can leave us neglecting ourselves and that won’t do! One of my favourite ways to spend a bit of me time is to have a Pedicure.
My love affair with Pedi’s began when I used to travel frequently to the USA. In all the malls I noticed nail salon’s full to the brim. I was intrigued by the rows of women, sitting, their bodies gently bopping up and down rhythmically, their feet submersed in bubbles. “I’ve got to have a go at that” and thus it became a regular habit, a treat.
You see, this Pedicure business was unknown to me. In the UK we just don’t seem to do feet. Perhaps it’s because the weather keeps feet inside Boots for most of the year or perhaps we have abnormally ticklish feet?! Who knows? However, once a year, when the sun comes out and feet are finally sprung free, all manner of foot horrors are unleashed upon the world! Panic buying of pumice stones commences!
Here we are sock free for most of the year, so we don’t want to send people screaming for the sand dunes should they catch a glimpse of our crusty heels. Therefore getting a Pedi is a must. Pamper – Check, Pretty feet – Check, Me time – CHECK!
This week I visited The Nail Spa at Al Wahda Mall. The salon is new and decorated in tones of beige and cream. It’s sleek, comfortable and despite the mall location it’s peaceful. Background music plays (think Buddha Bar, before the party starts!), Fashion TV is on the flat screen and magazines abound!
I was offered a drink and made to feel comfortable. I chose a polish from the huge selection of Essie colours available. Great attention is paid to hygiene here, a new foot file pad for each customer, sterilized equipment and I get my own personal buffing kit, to bring with me on my next treatment.
My therapist began with all the usual pedicure stuff, soaking, trimming and filing my nails. She was thorough but gentle. Every now and then she gave my toes a little refreshing cooling spritz. My hard skin (ssh!) removed, I was scrubbed, buffed and then cream was applied for my favourite part! The massage! Bliss!
I was asked throughout if everything was ok for me. My varnish was applied very precisely and I was left to dry (relax) for as long as I needed, there was no mad rush to have me depart. The only thing I missed was the massage chairs.
I was very impressed with my experience. I will be going again for sure and would recommend it to other ladies. I was walking on air when I left.
